We remember them
from the movies. They were all glamour, glitz, and
grace. We also remember them from school. They were
cute, cool, and chosen. We might even see them
now...in church. They are spiritual, sophisticated, and
sweet.
We step on the scale or look in
the mirror, our closets, and our
souls wishing we were all they are. It's easy
to believe a polished exterior equals a put-together
peaceful interior. It's as if what we defines them...and
what we don't see in us...defines us.
We don't want to get too close
so our inadequacies are evident...just in their
breathing range so we can catch whatever it is these
women have - as if it's contagious.
We're so focused on how they
look we often miss their hearts.
I remember watching Princess
Diana when she was busy being a "royal." In her pefect
clothes, her perfect body, and her princess status it
was easy to miss her eyes silently reflecting her
sorrowing soul. I realized the difference when I saw
pictures of her holding children who were missing parts
because they had stepped on a landmine. In spite of her
great sadness for their suffering, I noticed a new
beauty - she loved them. Everything about them...she was
at home with them. In her passion for them she could see
past their severed bodies to their potential as human
beings. Because of her pain she could connect more fully
with theirs. She saw past their imperfections to their
true beauty - she took a peek into their
hearts.
The God who loves us does the
same thing!
1 Samuel 16:7b says, "Man looks
at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the
heart."
If I personalize this I get:
Man looks at Joy's outward appearance, but I (the Lord)
look at her heart.
Now it gets exciting...because
I live under His grace...I can add: I look at her
forgiven heart.
I believe Psalm 139. We
were on God's mind before we were. He
dreamed us up. (take a look at Webster's
definitions for dream and imagination)
We were created by Him to
worship Him. As we live our lives for
Him...we're God's dreams come true...we're His dream
girls!
