Bits & Pieces of You ~ Shawna DeCola

Welcome back to Bits & Pieces of YOU! Today I want to introduce you to Shawna DeCola. Once again, I get to share the writing of a young woman I’ve known all of her life. Oh the stories I could tell, but I won’t. This is her time to shine though her words. Today, Shawna shares a poem she wrote immediately following the worst event of her life. I hope you’ll come back tomorrow to read more of her journey so far – it’s a legacy story. When I heard her read this poem to her dad, I cried because her words were honest, raw, and authentic. And now . . . here’s Shawna!

“No, No! Daddy!”

“Please don’t go daddy!”

This is all I could think,

I kept looking for the missing link.

It’s not fair -

To mom, us, or anyone,

That you left us in such a scare.

Thoughts of worry, doubt, and fear creep in my head,

When I lay myself down in my bed,

You are the one who is supposed to answer

When I am asked for by Mr. Right Lancer.

Who will walk me down the aisle?

Or answer when 911 is what I dial?

Jokes, kids and adrenalin rush,

Fear was so easy for you to crush!

Dad, you had the ability to make anything a game,

And when people praised you – you gave Jesus all the fame

Looks, abilities, and traits we share

Is that me? Or you looking back in my stare?

The most important thing you taught me

God will bless those who love him

He will fill my heart with glee

It was never: “what can they do for me?

“But always, “what can I do for them?”

Your workplace was your battlefield,

You worked and worked until hearts were sealed.

Look! You touched so many people

Because you were a witness outside of the steeple

Thank you Dad for 22 great years.

The Lord will comfort me and all my fears

You had the ability to make everyone feel

As if they were the most important,

And then give them such an eternal deal!

You love Jesus with your whole heart

I can’t wait to race down heaven’s street with you in your new Cart!

We will never forget you – You were one of a kind

I hope your traits in me I find!

This is what you deserve, Dad look around!

I’m sure up in heaven your singing a beautiful sound.

Don’t worry, we will still pray for and visit the station

And use your type of Godly communication.

Daddy, I will always be your little girl.

We will take care of mom, and show her lots of love

I know you will always be looking down on us from up above.
